Nutrition counseling in Denver

Nutrition counseling in Denver with a registered dietitian

Most nutrition advice is a well-meaning guess. Working with a registered dietitian means someone can look at what is actually happening inside your body first, then build a plan around it. In person in Denver, or virtual from anywhere.

Nutritionist, dietitian, nutrition coach: what is the difference?

Most people search for a nutritionist in Denver without much interest in job titles. That is fair. But the difference is worth thirty seconds, because it decides what the person you hire is allowed to do for you.

"Nutritionist" and "nutrition coach" are not protected titles in Colorado. Anyone can use them after a weekend course. "Registered dietitian" is protected, and it requires an accredited degree, a supervised clinical internship and a national board exam.

The practical difference on your plan:

Order and read your labs

Bloodwork can show what is going on with hormone health, metabolic health, gut health and digestion, and micronutrient status. I can order it, interpret it, and build your nutrition around what it says.

Individual supplement guidance

Recommendations based on your labs and your diet, not on what is being sold this month. Available through a practitioner dispensary if you want it.

Read continuous glucose data

A CGM shows how your body actually responds to specific meals, sleep and stress. Interpreting that well is a clinical skill.

I am also a NASM certified personal trainer. So if you want your nutrition and your training designed together, by one person, that is possible here. See personal training.

This is probably for you if

  • You feel "off" but cannot pinpoint why.
  • You want data to guide your nutrition and training, not a generic plan.
  • You are doing everything right and still not seeing what you expected.
  • You want to finally understand your gut health.
  • You are tired of starting over every Monday.
  • You want support from someone credentialed to actually answer your questions.

What bloodwork can tell us

Have you been feeling off? Or do you just want more clarity about your health, your performance and your recovery? Labs are a sensible next step. Bloodwork here informs your nutrition plan. It is not used to diagnose or treat a medical condition, and it does not replace your physician.

  • Hormone health
  • Metabolic health
  • Gut health and digestion
  • Micronutrient status
  • Overall wellness markers

No more guessing. Clear, personalized data.

Prefer to use your insurance?

I also see nutrition clients through Fay, which bills insurance directly. Many plans cover nutrition counseling at little or no out-of-pocket cost, but coverage and copays vary by plan, so check yours rather than assuming.

The cash-pay packages above exist because they include things an insurance-billed visit usually will not cover: a continuous glucose monitor, lab interpretation, and training designed alongside your nutrition.

Nutrition clients

She taught me how to eat nourishing, satisfying foods without ever feeling like I'm on a diet. What used to feel like the daily pressure of "what's for dinner" has become simple and manageable.

Nutrition coaching client, Denver

I worked with Kenzie after a stomach bug caused a severe dairy intolerance. She explains complex topics in an easy to understand way. Not only am I able to eat dairy again, she completely changed how our family approaches meal planning.

Gut health client, Denver

We worked together on nutrition with a strong focus on protein intake because I'm a vegetarian. Kenzie helped me come up with creative solutions for easy meal prep and recipes.

Common questions

What does a registered dietitian do that a nutrition coach cannot?

A registered dietitian, or RD, is a credentialed healthcare professional. The title is legally protected and requires an accredited degree, a supervised internship and a national exam. In practice that means an RD can order and interpret bloodwork, give individualized supplement guidance, and interpret continuous glucose monitor data. Nutrition coach is not a protected title, so anyone can use it. That is why the credential matters when your plan has to account for labs, hormones or a medical condition.

Do you take insurance?

Sozo Wellness packages are cash pay. I also see nutrition clients through Fay, which bills insurance directly, and many plans cover nutrition counseling. Coverage and copays vary by plan. Check yours on the Fay profile before you assume either way. Cash pay packages include things an insurance-billed visit usually cannot cover, such as a continuous glucose monitor and integrated training.

Can you order bloodwork?

Yes. The Comprehensive Nutrition Package includes ordering, reviewing and interpreting bloodwork, and lab interpretation fees are included in that package. Bloodwork can give useful information on hormone health, metabolic health, gut health and digestion, and micronutrient status. It is used to inform your nutrition plan, not to diagnose or treat a medical condition.

Do I need to live in Denver?

No. Nutrition sessions run virtually as well as in person, so you can work with me from anywhere. In-person training is Denver only, in Wash Park and LoHi.

What happens on the free discovery call?

It is 15 minutes. You tell me what you are hoping to change. I ask about your goals and where you are starting from. You leave with a clear idea of what would actually help. There is no charge and no obligation to book anything afterwards. Please do not send medical details through the website form; anything clinical is handled inside the practice, not on this site.

How is this different from a meal plan app?

An app gives everyone the same plan and cannot see what your body is doing. Working with a dietitian means the plan is built around your labs, your schedule, your training and what you actually like to eat. It changes as you do. Sozo is also a personal trainer, so the nutrition and the training are designed together rather than by two people who never speak.
